Product update: new VTEX integration for auto e-commerce tracking

NewsBy Juliana Amorim

Delivering a highly personalized e-commerce experience requires a continuous stream of reliable behavioral data. To help you unlock this data faster, we are excited to announce our new VTEX integration.

This integration connects your VTEX store to Croct. Once set up, it automatically tracks your store's e-commerce events in Croct and enriches user profiles with your customers' data. This allows your team to build audiences, run AB tests, and personalize the storefront with no extra development work.

The integration works out of the box with stores built with Store Framework (VTEX IO), which broadcast their events through the same mechanism used by Pixel apps. For storefronts built with FastStore, you can use our Google Tag Manager integration instead.

Here is a closer look at what the VTEX integration brings to your optimization stack.

Revenue optimizationTurn abandoning visitors into shoppers

Say goodbye to generic offers and hello to targeted, timely interactions that drive more revenue, boost ROI, and reduce CAC.

Automatic event tracking and mapping

VTEX broadcasts every store event to the browser. The integration automatically listens for those messages and forwards them to Croct.

To ensure your analytics are perfectly aligned, the integration maps VTEX store events to Croct's e-commerce and engagement events. For example:

  • vtex:productView maps to productViewed
  • vtex:addToCart maps to cartModified
  • vtex:beginCheckout maps to checkoutStarted
  • vtex:orderPlaced maps to orderPlaced

Furthermore, every supported event also records a conversion event, meaning every interaction is immediately available as a conversion to power your experiences and experiments, letting you target and analyze each one directly.

Value normalization and deduplication

E-commerce data can be complex, but the integration handles the heavy lifting to ensure your revenue tracking is accurate.

  • Revenue deduplication

VTEX tracks a purchase through both vtex:orderPlaced and vtex:orderPlacedTracked, which carry the same order. The integration intelligently tracks the orderPlaced event only once, ensuring your revenue is never counted twice.

  • Price formatting

VTEX reports monetary values in different units depending on the event, so the integration normalizes them before tracking. Cart and order form values are converted from integers in cents to major units.

Real-time profile enrichment

Beyond just tracking events, the integration uses VTEX customer data to enrich the user profile with standard attributes.

Depending on the VTEX event triggered (like vtex:userData or vtex:cart), Croct automatically extracts and saves attributes such as firstName, lastName, email, phone, and address directly to the customer's profile. This enriched data is immediately available for audience segmentation and real-time personalization.

How to get started

Integrating your VTEX store is incredibly simple and can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Add a script tag

You can add the integration script directly to your storefront's HTML, either in the <head> or the <body>.

  2. Use Google Tag Manager

If you prefer not to edit your source code, you can use Google Tag Manager to inject a Custom HTML tag containing the script without changing your codebase.
